Inflatables are one of children’s favorite toys, so can we use them in winter? Do you remember when our teacher said this when we were still in school, molecules expand when they are warm and come together when they are cold. While inflatables are generally made from heavy duty vinyl, vinyl and cold air aren’t your best friends. Vinyl gets harder and harder as the air gets colder. So it is not recommended that you use inflatables outdoors in winter.

Inflatables can be used when the temperature is 60 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. When it’s 60-50 degrees Fahrenheit, kids find inflatables less fun because they’re already starting to get a little hard. The real trouble will come when the temperature drops below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Inflatables can become hard and brittle, with the risk of tearing with every jump, potentially causing injury to the child. So we don’t recommend you use inflatables in temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

You’ll also find that you have little chance of finding a party rental company during the winter months, but they will happily provide indoor setups if you have enough space indoors. Rental companies also do this to prevent the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment.

Another question is how do we take care of inflatables in winter? First make sure your inflatables are free of moisture before winter storage, and second keep rodents away from your unit so you can place mothballs around your pantry. This will allow them to survive the winter in safety.
